Version 4 updates

Version 4 NTBs can only be updated to Version 5 ater they have been brought to V4.4.3 or V4.4.4.

Your current software version is shown in the top corner of every web page on the NTB. If your NTB is less than V4.4.3 then see below to download the relevant update file.

Before updating from V4 to V5, please consider the following:

  • V5 is significantly easier and quicker to use than V4, making it substantially different.
  • Some users, however, may require advance warning that the familiar user interface is about to change.
  • All V4 users are urged to read the notes on V5 for V4 users to familiarise themselves with V5 before updating to it.
  • Users may also wish to read the User Guide .
  • V5 Channel Manager is not compatible with V4. Content from a V5 publisher will not reach a V4 subscriber until it has also been updated. System Administrators should plan ahead.
  • Please see the V5 Release Notes for details of what is new in V5.
  • Or Click here for the V4 Release Notes

Updates

The NTB has a number of software versions as listed below. In order to keep down the size of the incremental updates, it is not always possible to update from any version to the latest version in one step. It may be necessary to go step-by-step, depending on your current version.

Note: software updates do not contain Media. New default showreel content must be obtained from ONELAN.

Update Method for NTB V4 software releases

Here is the method to update from V4.2.1 onwards to V4.4.4. Other V4 updates follow the same procedure.

You must let the update run to completion which can take 10 minutes. Turning off the power to the NTB during an update may prevent the NTB for working. Please be patient.

  1. Download the update package by pointing your Browser to: http://www.onelan.co.uk/updates/onelan-NTB-set-V4.4.3-update.opf
Note: that some Browsers (notably Windows Internet Explorer) change the extension of the filename. If this occurs, the extension must be changed back to the ONELAN '.opf'
  2. Browse to the NTB
  3. Open the Update page
  4. Click the Browse... button
  5. Select the onelan-NTB-set-V4.4.3-update.opf file
  6. Click the Upload button - wait for file to upload to the NTB
  7. Click the Reboot link
  8. Choose YES and click the Reboot button.
  9. Wait for the NTB to restart - this may take 10 minutes.

After the NTB has rebooted it will be run the V4.4.3 release.

Notes:

  1. Please ignore the following message if it appears during the upload process:
"Failed to process command too many values to unpack.
    .....
A reboot is required to install the update."
  2. During the reboot process, the NTB will check the credentials of the update package and will display the progress of the update procedure in yellow text on its output video interface (VGA or TV). If no orange text is seen, the update has not taken effect and the update file may still be in the /updates folder of the NTB. This can be because the update file is corrupt in some way - including a filename corruption - see above.
  3. An update procedure may deliberately re-boot the NTB during the update process. This is normal behaviour and requires no user intervention.
