Introduction

The electronic screen that has been installed in your organisation is being driven by a device called a Net-Top-Box (NTB). The NTB is able to display a variety of media types including:

  • Full-motion video - either from video clips stored within the NTB or live TV,
  • Animations - such as those commonly found on web sites,
  • Still Images - such as pictures from cameras or electronic art,
  • Text - as entered locally by an authorised user,
  • Audio - normally associated with the above video or animation.

The NTB is probably subscribed (tuned) to a media Channel that has been published on the Intranet or Internet and will access the Channel to update itself periodically. If the NTB is not subscribed to a Channel then the programme on the NTB is the Channel.

Make a note of the Channel that your NTB is subscribed to, who the Channel is published by and the contact details of the Channel Administrator.

The Administrator has probably programmed the Channel to show a standard set of media but may also have allowed you to customise most aspects of it. There are four categories of media:

  • Media that is managed by the Channel Administrator alone and cannot be customised.
  • Media that was provided by the Administrator but can be removed or altered by you.
  • Media that will be replaced automatically as soon as you start customising the display.
  • Media that is managed by you alone. No other NTBs in the Channel will show it.
