Channel Content Server

The Channel Content Server (CCS) is an optional storage device to hold all the files for the Channel. Determine whether one is required or not.

How much disk space the channel will take up on the publisher?

This mainly depends on the maximum number and size of video files that you plan to have in your channel. If you do not have many large videos then the required disk space would be less than 1GB. If you do then you need to establish how many GB they will take up in total. As a rule-of-thumb, you need 2GB per hour of video. This is the amount of FTP space that you need.

Can the publisher be used as the FTP server?

If you only have a handful of subscribing NTBs and the subscribers can access the publisher over your LAN then use it as the FTP server.

If you have many subscribers then you need to take the load off the publisher by publishing to an FTP server. If all the subscribers are on your own LAN then you can use a Linux or Windows PC as the server.

If the subscribers are outside your LAN and cannot, therefore, communicate directly with the publisher / FTP server then you need to rent FTP space on the Internet. Talk to your ISP because there may be spare FTP space available on your website that you could use. You may prefer, however, to use a dedicated FTP server in which case you should shop around. Most ISPs offer a number of different packages depending on how many GB you need but we are not totally satisfied with DataFlame at the moment.

If and when you have a CCS:

Obtain the IP address/URL for the CCS. Ensure that it is contactable by trying to connect to it using Internet Explorer (Address = ftp://<ip_address>). Do you require a username and password to connect to it? Keep a record of the address, username and password.

Configure the NTB as a Publisher and to publish to the above FTP site in the Channel Manager Settings page.
